jane birkin can best be described as effortless beauty. an english actor/singer popularly known in the 1960s, her name may also ring a more socially popular bell. that's right fashionistas: the inspiration for the birkin bag.
on a flight from paris to london, she said down next to jean-louis dumas, hermes' chief executive. when trying to place her bag in the overhead compartment, all the contents fell right out. she turned to him saying it had been difficult to find a leather weekend bag that she actually liked. lo and behold - the hermes birkin bag!
is it needless to say that the fact that she has bangs has also contributed to my jane birkin fascination?
