cheers to a divine twenty nine

and here we have it... the last of the birthday pictures.
what a wonderful week it was!
*please do note the final shot of me screaming for joy at the stroke of midnight - champagne flute in tow of course.

always read something

always read something that will make you look good
if you die in the middle of reading it.
- p.j. o'rourke

when my friend and fellow photographer edward scott called me to say, "i think i found your paradise. we need to shoot here!" he wasn't kidding. this side of counterpoint books holds an impressive selection of vintage and hard-to-come-by books that would leave any dutiful collector in sheer paradise. i was very much inspired by the antiquity of the shop and so wanted to properly dress the part.

***a special thank you to counterpoint for giving us the pleasure to shoot here.

back to basics

with the temperature being rather bi-polar in los angeles (one day it rains, the other it's windy, the following it's cold, and then it's 95*), i've decided you can't go wrong when you go back to the basics. there's nothing more simple and timeless than a great white tee and jeans.

my very first knockwurst

i'll begin with this: i am not into the fourth-finger-frenzy that has hit the fashion scene. i like all my fingers and toes one color - that's right, i don't even fancy french manicures.
and so when i walked into ulta this past weekend, i was marveled by o.p.i.'s new germany collection. debating between purchasing a pale color or a red one, i proceeded to try "my very first knockwurst" on my pinky and "danke-shiny redt" on my ring finger. i ended up buying both. and this, my dear friends, is how i made the exception to the one-color rule.

open nars

i don't believe in blank beauty.
i need character & personality.
- francois nars

last night, nars cosmetics had their store opening on the infamous melrose avenue and i was there to enjoy all the glory of one of my top makeup brands. the picturesque store was on full-mode andy warhol theme and had edie sedgwick as the main muse.
mere minutes after arriving, the head artist for nars, cindy rodriguez (who was actually flown down from nyc just for this event and who just so happened to have done alessandra ambrosio's make-up for the event) decided to touch up my pale lips and add a bright pop of color. definitely woke up my outfit!
the night ended with the nars andy warhol edie gift set - a film-cannister container with pure matte lipstick in film star, eyeliner stylo in carpates, blush duo in deep throat & amour, and eyeshadow in edie. the gift set will be available at department and speciality stores november 1st.
i absolutely loved the new store and don't deem it safe for my wallet considering it's in walking distance from my apartment (gulp).

what i wore:
my mother's vintage shirt, helmut lang trousersaldo heels
