work your way in

welcome to a dinner. it never fails that one person will break a sweat contemplating whether or not they picked up the right utensil for the appropriate dish.

here are three simple tricks:
1. silverware: always start from the outside and work your way in. (it's one of my favorite lines from the movie titanic)
2. bread plate v. glassware: i always curl my fingers in a shape of a "b" (on my left hand) and a "d" (on my right hand). then i remember the "b"read plate is to my left and my "d"rink glass is to my right.
3. napkins: the folded crease of the napkin should always be placed against your stomach.
