having grown up in miami and having lived in los angeles for almost a decade, the changing of seasons never really resonated with me. this is actually the first time in my entire life where i'm actually experiencing autumn. watching the colors change and having foliage be this perfect blend of gold, red and green is absolutely magical.

it's happening... it's autumn and it's coming on quick.
there are brief moments in the day where the temperature rises to a comfortable 72* and you see the city back to wearing it's shirts and jeans. one must take advantage of what's left of the warmth.

the past week i spent back home in miami and i could not have been more thrilled to see my family, close friends, and of course the beach! spending the day with my dear friend (and photographer) karla was exceptional. although i'm not one for prints, i jumped on the summer's bandwagon by slapping some palms leaves into my wardrobe.

while i was waiting for the elevator at work this morning, the building's doorman turns to me and says, "only in new york can you experience three seasons in one day." i smiled and couldn't have thought of a more truthful statement. while the temperature is heating up in the city, there are days that throw you back off to heavy knit sweaters, and i become rather tempted to throw on that winter coat i swore off weeks ago. with this weekend being memorial day, i'm sure i'll find myself in a bikini somewhere about town. but for now, i'm enjoying the last cool days of the season.

anyone that knows me knows i love a good black on black outfit. anyone that wears black on black frequently knows the difficulty in making each outfit look uniquely its own.
ever get that feeling?
i had been looking for the perfect structured black pant for a while and alas i found it in j.crew (not to mention the flat mules as well). pairing it up with an oversized structured sweater completes the outfit with a more modern twist - as opposed to a fitted top. the shoes provide an nice alternative for me who practically lives in sneakers ever since moving to the city and walking everywhere needed to be.
how do you wear black on black?

the past couple of days have been really magical having my mother and little sister (ahem... or should i say the talented photographer) in town. after a weekend of endless touristy attractions, shows, and dinners, i was genuinely sad to see them go. everywhere i went my sister kept quietly snapping away on her iphone the things that had inspired her the most. when i saw the pics, i turned and said they were really good and what her thoughts were in shooting me for the blog. and here you have it! part one of two that she took. can you believe it's the first time she picks up an actual camera?!
ps: can you tell spring is finally in the city? hoorah!
