last cool days

photos by sequoia ziff

while i was waiting for the elevator at work this morning, the building's doorman turns to me and says, "only in new york can you experience three seasons in one day." i smiled and couldn't have thought of a more truthful statement. while the temperature is heating up in the city, there are days that throw you back off to heavy knit sweaters, and i become rather tempted to throw on that winter coat i swore off weeks ago. with this weekend being memorial day, i'm sure i'll find myself in a bikini somewhere about town. but for now, i'm enjoying the last cool days of the season.

grey

there's nothing better than throwing on your favorite sweater and a pair of tights on a chilly afternoon, wouldn't you agree?
when i saw this grey little number from sheinside i was immediately drawn to how effortlessly chic it was. swap the boots for heels, smack some red lips on, and you can have a night out in the town.

post-labor

hope everyone had a great labor day weekend! i know i did!
now that summer is winding down (although the weather in LA would prove otherwise), i'm looking forward to mixing a bit of autumn into the wardrobe. bringing out the long-sleeves and mixing them in with shorts is an easy go-to. not to mention i'm really on one for the bodysuits from american apparel. such a staple.

how did you all spend the weekend?

miansai

this summer i've been wrapping my head more times than not, just to add some spice to my otherwise black bikinis (ie: permanent weekend attire). throw on a miansai bracelet and voila... simple and chic.

happy fourth

there is always something to be said about the fourth of july for me. the past few years it has been the hallmark of rather life changing events: 2012 my then boyfriend asked me to be his, 2013 i was in the dominican republic celebrating a childhood friend's wedding (and also secretly trying to manage my overwhelming anxiety over the person i was with at the time - insert pina colada emoji here), and alas 2014 has brought me a new job. i've been a firm believer that life has a brutally funny way of giving us what we need at the time we need it - even if said thing is gut wrenching and painful. but like rumi says, sometimes we need to crack in order to let the light in. and that's exactly how i'm feeling about my life right now... full of light. excitement and gratitude are at the top of the list every morning when i wake up.
so while i was on top of my neighbors roof, watching the fireworks solo (before going to my friend's house), i found myself with peaceful tears in my eyes thinking at the many accomplishments and hurdles overcome these past seven months. i kissed the sky, and thought: happy independence day indeed!

i've been to the desert

two weekends ago i packed my bags and hit the desert running.
thanks to the familia bonks, my friend caroline and i were able to enjoy a wonderful weekend in 114* heat.
can i get an amen?
